Lululemon Launches “&Go” Line of Gym to Happy Hour Apparel

Introducing “&GO” by Lululemon.com

Introducing “&Go” at Lululemon.com

Lululemon "& Go".

Lululemon “& Go”.

Lululemon has launched a brand new line of casual clothes for outside the yoga studio that includes sundresses, pants and tank tops. The line, called “&Go,” targets women who are “out the door at daybreak and moving until midnight,” Lululemon says. The ad resonates with women, ”You don’t have time for a wardrobe that keeps forcing you to change. You’re busy living. We get it.”  &Go, which is being sold online and in stores, launched last week. Six of the 12 products that were part of the debut sold out in a matter of hours, according to Canaccord Genuity analyst Camilo Lyon.

The line’s shorts retail at $54, tops for $58, dresses for $198 and pants cost between $108 and $118. Lyon says the new line is proof that Lululemon “is still very much relevant and not fading,” despite a recent glitch in a recalled line of yoga pants.

“In our opinion, it is the most progressive, fashion-forward line the company has brought to market in quite some time,” Lyon said in a note to clients  last week. And the line looks pretty hip to a busy mom like me! What do you think about the multiple purpose line of clothes?

Oscars Viewing Party Ideas

The Oscars will air this Sunday March 2nd on ABC at 7 PM/EST and will be hosted by Ellen Degeneres.

The Academy Awards has been my favorite awards show since I dreamed of becoming an actress at 10 years old. That’s some time ago! Before marriage and kids, I would dream of the day that I would make it to the Oscars in an ensemble cast for a film that was nominated or even possibly as a “seat filler“. (Side Note: Let’s face it, I didn’t have any grandiose ideas that I’d be nominated as an actress, but just about anyone with a good headshot could work as a seat filler).

That dream eventually faded. I got married, had two kids and settled on attending a handful of  local Academy Awards Viewing Parties in Washington, D.C. Those days are over too. And instead, this weekend, I will patiently try to put my kids to bed before the E! Live From the Red Carpet Oscars ends and the Oscars Award Show begins. Wish me luck with that one!

After the kiddies are tucked in safe and sound and I’m confident they’re asleep, my babysitter will arrive so my husband and I can finally escape to our neighbor’s house, where we’ve all collaborated to throw a “Kick Ass Oscar’s Party”. And you can too! Here’s our plan:

Sarah Jessica Parker Launches “SJP” Shoe Line at Nordstrom, Friday February 28th

Have you ever imagined being the character Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex and the City” or at least day dreamed about what it would be like to have her shoe collection in your closet? Well, now you can.  Parker worked with the CEO of Manolo Blahnik, George Malkemus, on the new collection.

Sarah Jessica Parker has designed a collection of shoes, handbags and a trench coat for Nordstrom that launches Friday, February 28th. The SJP Collection aims to make shoe-aholics swoon with pumps and flirty, strappy stilettos in a variety of colors such as mint, purple and mauve. They’re made in Italy and named after Ms. Parker’s fashion influences, including a pair dubbed “Carrie” and another called “Maud” for renowned fashion designer Maud Frizon.

“I’ve taken inspiration from things in my life such as the grosgrain ribbons I tied in my hair as a girl to the flower accents from the ‘Sex and the City’ wardrobe to references to classic styles from the late ’70s and early ’80s,” Ms. Parker said in a statement.

Handbags were named after some of Sarah Jessica Parker’s favorite spots in New York City. One of my favorites, the “Waverly” cross-body bag and the “Beekman” clutch are just two examples. The “Manhattan” trench comes in navy or natural colors and is designed to flatter with an A-line fit and skirted silhouette.

“I’m a firm believer in quality and timelessness and have created this collection with the hopes that women will love wearing it for years to come,” she said.

Priced affordably, shoes will range from $195 to $500, and handbags will be from $245-$375. The trench will retail for $495. The line launches on Friday, February 28th in select Nordstrom stores including a public reception and launch at the Nordstrom in Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia from 6 PM to 9 PM. SJP shoes will also be available online at www.nordstrom.com.

Top 6 Restaurants: Where Kids Eat For FREE (A Clarendon Moms Guide)

I’ve strolled up and down Clarendon Boulevard and Wilson Boulevard at least a hundred times pushing my two kids in their double stroller or red wagon and dining at various restaurants. However, I’ve never bothered to look at the “Specials” on the chalkboards outside of the restaurants let alone inquire about “specials for kids” once inside the restaurant. That is, until earlier this week. My three year old son and I were enjoying the 40 degree January weather while walking to go pick up my five year old daughter from Kindergarten when a sign outside of The Hard Times Cafe practically jumped out at me. It read “KIDS EAT FREE ALL DAY MONDAY & TUESDAY”. What? What? What?! Really? Were my eyes playing tricks on me? As I’m smiling like a stressed out mom getting a day of pampering in a luxury day spa, I suddenly realized I’d never seen this before in Clarendon. I was a little shocked and I didn’t quite understand why I was so pleasantly surprised. Perhaps it was because of the sheer amount of restaurants in the neighborhood that seem to cater towards singletons and the double income/no kids crowd or those that care nothing about a bargain. Most restaurants in the Clarendon-Courthouse area DO offer Kids Meals. However, I’ve never seen a sign offering up “Free Meals” and I now know it’s because I never paid attention and I’ve never ever thought to look for it. After Logan and I picked up Ella, we met up with one of my gal pals and enjoyed a nice lunch for 4 at The Hard Times Cafe. There was so much food, we left with doggy bags”. And the best thing about it: It was a whopping $22 before tip. I’m still in heaven thinking about how great the food was and how much fun we had, not to mention–the bargain!

This experience inspired me to call up the 30+ Restaurants we have from the Clarendon-Courthouse area all the way to Ballston and Rosslyn. These are my Top 6 Restaurants Offering “Kids Eat Free Specials”. Happy Dining! [Read more...]

Happy National Play-Doh Day!

image005 image003 image002 image001 image004 image006

September 16th is National Play-Doh Day, a day to enjoy the fun colorful modeling compound in an effort to rediscover the creativity we all had as small children. Hasbro’s Play-Doh, which is composed of flour, water, salt, boric acid, and silicone oil, was originally manufactured as a putty-like wallpaper cleaner in the 1930s. Two decades later when it was discovered that a teacher was using the non-toxic, non-staining substance for arts and crafts projects the compound was reworked and sold to schools in Cincinnati. With great marketing campaigns and a natural appeal, Play-Doh quickly became a popular children’s toy. Over two billion cans were sold between 1955 and 2005 in over 75 countries around the world.

My favorite way to celebrate Play-Doh Day is to sit down with my husband, kids and a few of our kid’s friends and create Play-Doh Sculptures. The Play-Doh Sculptures you see above are in honor of the 2013 Emmy Awards. Since I have an actor’s background (wish me luck on my “House of Cards” audition today), I thought I’d share them with you all! I’d also like to share some tips on  how to create a Play-Doh Sculpture sure to last a long time. These sculptures make a perfect gift for the holidays.

Allow your Play-Doh sculpture to air dry slowly. It may take several weeks for sculptures to dry fully–even longer for larger sculptures.

Choose a base on which to display the sculpture. This can be as simple as a piece of cardboard or paper plate, or you can choose something more elegant like a piece of wood or a glass candle holder.

Thin white craft glue in a cup with a little water, in a ratio of about two parts glue to one part water. Use the paintbrush to coat the bottom of the sculpture with glue. Set the Play-Doh sculpture on top of base, then continue to coat the sculpture with glue until it is completely covered. Try not to use more glue than is necessary or spill excess glue on the base.

Allow sculpture to air dry, then display. To keep the sculpture in good condition longer, avoid getting it wet, as the glue is water-soluble.

Do you have any memories about Play-Doh from your childhood or that you share with your children? Please share them in the Comments Below!
