I seldom get a chance to go on a Mom’s Getaway. So when I when I was invited by Tanger Outlets National Harbor to “Shop & Stay,” shop Tanger Outlets and stay at the Gaylord National Hotel, I literally jumped for joy. In the ten years since having my children, it’s hard to believe that this was the first time I spent one night alone—no children, no husband, no friends, just me. National Harbor is less than thirty minutes from home in Arlington, making this the perfect 24 hour staycation. My husband was alone with the kids, so if he or the kids needed me for anything, I was completely within reach. I thought I was going to need a ton of caffeine to enjoy myself, but I only had a few sips of Red Bull and was ready to enjoy a break!

Coach was offering 70% off products in the entire store including all bags, shoes, wallets, computer bags, satchels, sunglasses, scarves, keychains and jackets with an additional 20% off some of the season end clearance. It was the perfect time for me to stock up on upcoming hostess gifts, birthday gifts and to purchase Ella’s first crossbody bag.
- Tumi
As a traveling family, high quality luggage is a must. Tumi had a sale of up to 30% off most of their luxury goods. I purchased a new carry-on bag, a packable backpack and a new wallet for my husband.
- Columbia
I’ve discovered that most of the online catalogue items can be found at this location and at discounts ranging from 10-50% off. I purchased swim shoes for the kids and a few SPF resistant tops and skirts for myself.
- H&M
The kids section here is amazing and the discounts are steep. It’s a store where I can shop for the entire family.
- Theory
With the anticipation of a ton of summer barbecues and pool parties, Theory is always my top choice for summer shorts, tops and dresses. They had a ton of discounts and also offered complimentary champagne and boxed water while I shopped.
Stay: Gaylord National Hotel
Ever heard of “Shop til you drop?” I did that! Again, another first for me. I was alone with no other responsibilities and no other distractions. I shopped until I couldn’t shop anymore. After shopping, I was excited to check into my hotel room. Be sure to check out my room under Highlights on Instagram for a quick tour. My room was large with a balcony overlooking the beautiful atrium and came with a luxurious king size bed.
Travelers seeking a quick trip or multi-night stay this summer will find first-class musical performances from a diverse array of Washington, D.C. area entertainers during Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center’s SummerFest celebration featuring Music of America, supported by Pepsi®. On weekends now through September 4, the resort’s restaurants and 19-story glass atrium will be filled with the sounds of American music from Jazz to Country, as well as special events and family-friendly offerings. I checked out the Silent Disco Party happening at The Belvedere Lobby Bar. This is an all ages party where participants are given special headphones to wear and can select different music mixes created by a DJ to dance along to. I had such a blast. I went to bed a little later than I had planned, but it was certainly worth it.
Pamper: Relâche Spa & Salon
I attended a sneak peek of the new express service bar with Gaylord National Harbor and got a little preview of Relâche Spa’s beauty treatments. In a world that doesn’t seem to be slowing down, it is important to remember to stop and take a mental and physical break. This is not only important to recharge the mind, body and soul, but also for one’s overall health. Relaxation is the focus of everything they do at Relâche Spa & Salon. As a working mom, I don’t have a lot of time for self-care and pampering. All beauty services take 25 min or less and cost $15-$65. It’s a great chance to rejuvenate summer skin, refresh your makeup and hair and spend a few minutes to relax. I was treated to a mini facial, LED eye treatment, a moisturizing lip treatment, a hand massage and a mini blowout. I couldn’t believe how soft my skin felt and how relaxed I felt. And I absolutely loved what they were able to do with my hair in just a few minutes.
The Express Bar is located at Relâche and is available for walk-ins only. Regular service items including 50 and 90 minute massages, facials, body treatments and more are also available. It’s a great chance to rejuvenate summer skin, refresh your makeup and hair and relax.
Family Fun
My family and I often visit the National Harbor on weekends. There’s so much to do! There are movie matinees, nightly laser light shows, yoga classes, a sandy beach, scavenger hunts, a sandy beach area near The Awakening Sculpture, The Capital Wheel and much, much more! We are already planning our Back To School Shopping Excursion.
