Dover is known for being the capital of Delaware and the second largest city in the state. This was mine and my family’s second time visiting Dover and there are so many amazing things Dover has to offer! You can find some beautiful backdrops to take pictures for your family book too! My family and I were invited to Delaware’s Quaint Villages to share my travel experiences over Memorial Day weekend. We had so much fun exploring and were surprised to discover just how Instagram-worthy all of the sights are in this quaint and charming city!
Here are my Top 10 Instagram Spots in Delaware’s Quaint Villages.
1. The Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway
I grew up in the state of Ohio and we are huge NASCAR fans. My younger sister Antasia went to school with Sam Hornish, one of NASCAR’s breakout stars. I could go on and on about my love for NASCAR and the Dover International Speedway, but I’ll save you some time and tell you that you must take a private tour with Track Historian George Keller, an amazing man close to 70 years old full of passion and love for the track. Mr. Keller has witnessed all 94 Cup Series races that have taken place at Dover International Speedway since 1969.
George Keller gave me and my family and inside look into the Monster Mile racetrack including a tour of the only seated bridge over a racetrack in the entire world. Our biggest surprise was going on the racetrack in a race car with George. It was kind of a dream (that I didn’t even realize I had) come true when we entered the one-mile oval concrete race track with George and experiencing the ride on the track first hand, all the while learning about the history. The ride was exhilarating and at times, reminiscent of my first roller coaster ride. But, my family and I are all thrill seekers and we enjoyed every single minute of it!
2. Delaware’s Agricultural Museum
This museum takes us all on a journey way back into the 1800’s inside a rural farm and village. It offers a very educational journey about what it was like to live back then on a farm with tractors, farm tools and animals. There are so many great spots for beautiful outdoor pictures. I wish we would’ve dressed up a little bit more just for the beautiful backdrops and landscapes.
3. Spence’s Bazaar
There is so much inspiration at this market. This was our first stop on our first day visiting Dover. We enjoyed an incredible breakfast and purchased some pickles for the road.
4. Air Mobility Command Museum
This museum is perfect for aviation enthusiasts. We had the unforgettable opportunity to tour Air Force Two, the same plane that former first ladies Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton have flown on. Dedicated to airlift and air refueling history, this museum houses over 30 aircraft varying in roles and sizes. Cargo haulers, fighters, helicopters, a presidential aircraft and even a bomber, this museum has a little bit of everything. Free parking, free admission and free tours, what more could you ask for?
5. The Countrie Eatery Restaurant
This was one of the best country breakfasts I’ve ever had in my entire life. My kids, husband and I couldn’t believe how delicious the food was. We were seated with a beautiful waterfront view. It was so peaceful and reminded us that we were on a vacation. There’s a deck out back that overlooks the stunning Silver Lake. Ella and Logan enjoyed feeding the geese for about an hour while Dave and I just relaxed and enjoyed watching our kids have fun.
6. The Brunch and Lunch Restaurant
The interior decor is rustic chic and so cool. There are paintings by local artists covering the walls. It’s got such a warm and cozy place. Great food and service too!
7. Wesley College
Whenever we’re traveling, we make it a point to take our kids to a college campus at just about every town we visit. We stopped here for a just a few minutes and then it began to rain. But, we were able to capture a few snaps and can’t wait to go back.
8. Killens Pond State Park, Water Park & Nature Center
This is a lovely state park with a really cool nature center, hiking trails and a really great water park.
9. Dover Legislative Hall
The legislative hall is the state capitol building of Delaware located in the state capital of Dover on Legislative Avenue. It’s such a beautiful wide open space, a perfect backdrop for tons of pictures.
10. Historic Downtown Dover
This neighborhood has so many cute little boutiques and shops. You can discover so much inspiration here!
