Halloween always comes with quickly with so much anticipation that my kids actually start dressing up for it weeks before the holiday arrives. This year, we were invited by Matchbox (a favorite neighborhood restaurant) to attend their Halloween themed Kids Pizza Party. Kids ages 5-12 were able to arrive in costume and participate in the making of a pizza of their choice.
Eight locations participated in the event. Ella and Logan attended the party at the Capitol Hill location in Washington, D.C. Although they didn’t want to dress up in their costume because they “didn’t want to get them messy,” the class provided the following:
- A chef hat, crayons, and coloring page
- A tour of the kitchen and pizza ovens
- A pizza class where each child will make a customized personal pizza
- A candy table decorated for Halloween with cookie jack o’lanterns for decorating
- A round of complimentary mimosas for the adults
Ella said her pizza was extra delicious because she learned how to make it herself. And Logan said he could actually picture himself working for Matchbox because he thought he learned how to make pizza very well in just one class.
Named “Best New Restaurant” by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) in their first year, you can warm yourself against a smoldering backdrop of the hearth, spark a new conversation over vintage matchboxes that line your table, or ask for a bottle of their Matchbox Blend, made with love and featuring that spunky tree that started the restaurant’s history.
Bubbling thin-crust pizzas, local beer and a cool vibe have made Matchbox the neighborhood gathering place for a fun, friendly, casual dining experience any night of the week. But they’re so much more than that. They use only the freshest ingredients in an approachable way, and they work with local partners to bring you a fun, unique selection of beers, broad spectrum wines, and handcrafted signature cocktails you won’t find anywhere else.
What’s more…As community leaders, Matchbox donates 50¢ of every pizza sold to No Kid Hungry to end child hunger in America. On Mondays to Wednesdays, they can partner with any non-profit to donate 10% of sales to your organization. Inquire about this at any Matchbox location in the DC/Northern Virginia area.
