We have all been there…standing alone at the playground with our kids while looking around trying to figure out how to meet other moms. Maybe you managed to find that similar mom that dresses in the same Lululemon leggings and tank top like you do who runs next to you on the treadmill at the same gym. Or maybe you’ve met that fellow mom business owner who attends the same monthly meetings you do at a local Chamber of Commerce. But, for those of you still searching, there is finally a new app called Peanut to help you find mom friends!
.
Peanut was created to help connect like-minded mothers and give them the opportunity to form new friendships. Michelle Kennedy, co-founder and CEO of Peanut, says she was inspired to start the app after feeling lonely as a new mom and after working on other successful apps Bumble and Badoo. “It was 2 a.m., I was scrolling through Instagram looking at my girlfriends in the club and I just felt I needed to speak to another woman who was doing the same thing as me,” Kennedy told Good Morning America.
Who hasn’t wished there was an app just like a dating app, but for new friends? Peanut app helps alleviate two of the biggest pitfalls of new motherhood: loneliness and isolation.
Moms can sign up on Peanut through Facebook and create a profile—this is key in helping men stay off the platform. Moms can include how many children they have, choose from different phrases like “mom boss,” “geek chic” or “wine time” to describe themselves.
Peanut is designed to match moms with similar interests. If you find a mom interesting, swipe up to give her a “wave.” If she “waves” at you too, she’ll show up on your match list and you’re free to start messaging each other. You can still message someone who didn’t wave back at you, but the message will go to a separate folder. Peanut says more than 1 million “waves” have been exchanged since February, 2017. Mothers can also create group chats in the app to start larger conversations and create meetups.
I am excited and honored to be co-hosting an event to welcome Peanut to the DC market this Tuesday, October 24th with one of my favorite social media mavens in the entire world, Erika Bearman, the former Senior Vice President of Oscar De La Renta who now has her own consulting and branding firm.
YOU’RE INVITED!
Join me in celebrating the launch of Peanut, meeting fellow women entrepreneurs and celebrating women empowerment this Tuesday, October 24th 6 PM – 8 PM at Alice + Olivia by Stacy Bendet, 3303 M Street NW, Washington D.C. 20007
