Awesome Con, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier pop culture convention, is proud to present the return of Awesome Con Jr, a family-focused pavilion within Awesome Con taking place in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center over the course of Easter Weekend (March 30-April 1). Awesome Con Jr will provide hours of fun with entertaining and educational programs for fans of all ages, including interactive opportunities with characters from hit shows, kids costume parades, and Easter egg hunts for families celebrating the holiday together, with activities detailed atwww.awesomecon.com/awesome-con-jr/. Tickets to Awesome Con include access to Awesome Con Jr and are available at www.awesomecon.com, and as a special treat, children 10 and under are admitted for free when an accompanying adult reserves tickets with the code ACJRPR.
Families headed to Awesome Con on Easter Sunday, April 1 can embark on an Easter egg hunt through Awesome Con Jr, with eggs containing prizes hidden throughout the show floor. Kids will love cracking open the eggs to uncover goodies from DreamWorks, the National Wildlife Foundation, the International Spy Museum, Smithsonian Theaters, Art Way Alliance, Medieval Times, Chesapeake Family Magazine, WHUT PBS Kids, and Awesome Con. The Easter Bunny will make a special appearance on Sunday, ‘hopping’ by Awesome Con Jr for complimentary photo opportunities.
The fun runs all weekend long at Awesome Con Jr with endless opportunities to engage in creative play. Attendees can play over 50 kid-friendly video games presented by GameTruck on consoles like PlayStation 4 and Wii-U, show off their artistic sides during daily live art contests with Art Way Alliance, and stop by the DreamWorks animation booth to celebrate the new seasons of “Trolls: The Beat Goes On!” and “Spirit: Riding Free” with friendship bracelets and temporary tattoos.

Kids Costume Parades
Kids will have the chance to strut their stuff and show off over-the-top outfits in not just one but two costume parades inside Awesome Con Jr. Parades will be led by Buddy from PBS Kids’ hit show “Dinosaur Train.”

Wildlife Discovery with National Wildlife Federation
Meet celebrity naturalist David Mizejewski of the National Wildlife Federation and his wildlife friends. David will host an amazing live wildlife showcase with animals from around the globe like a black-and-white tegu lizard and laughing kookaburra, and even some species local to the DC area. National Wildlife Federation’s Ranger Rick makes a special guest appearance!

Original Character Design Live Art Contest with Art Way Alliance
Do you have an original character that can avenge with the best Avengers? Battle against the toughest Pokemon? Come show them off at Art Way Alliance’s Original Character Competition. During this event, artists of all ages will draw and shot off their own creations to panel of judges for a grand prize. Don’t have an original character in mind yet? Don’t worry! Art Way Alliance will have helpful tricks, tips, and all the material you will need to make character that pops. The contest is open for the first 20 participants who sign up at Art Way Alliance’s Booth 216.

Easter Sunday at Awesome Con Jr
In honor of Easter Sunday, Awesome Con Jr hosts an Awesome Egg Hunt for kids 10 and under on Sunday morning when doors open at 10:00 AM. Eggs will be scattered throughout the show floor and will keep the whole family busy searching throughout the day (limit 5 eggs per child.) Keep an eye out for gold eggs containing special prizes! The Easter Bunny makes a special visit for photo opportunities from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
Stop By the WHUT PBS Kids Booth
WHUT, the local PBS Kids affiliate station, will be playing PBS Kids programming all weekend and running fun kids games with prizes. Visit their Booth 315 throughout the weekend to participate in giveaways and meet your family’s favorite characters!
Meet Real Life Heroes with the DC Fire Department
The DC Fire and Emergency Services department will be in Booth 119 throughout the Awesome Con weekend demonstrating and teaching the basics of hands-only CPR. Learn the 4 easy steps in just two minutes, so you can be a bystander ready to provide life-saving care until professional responders arrive in an emergency.
Photo Opportunities
BB-8 from Star Wars visits Awesome Con Jr for photo opps, along with Buddy the Dinosaur from PBS Kids’ hit TV show “Dinosaur Train,” Paddington Bear from Paddington Bear 2, Roku from “Dragon Ball Z,” Henry the French Bulldog behind the popular @HenryandPenny Instagram account, and more. Fans can also snap pictures of iconic pieces of film and television memorabilia at Awesome Con’s Backlot, including four complete costumes from Star Wars: The Last Jedi on display during exhibit hall hours.
