My daughter Ella is graduating the first grade in a few weeks. And she really enjoys learning all year long especially during the summer when I become her teacher and she gets a break from the hustle and bustle of school. But sometimes I run out of creative ideas for how to keep them engaged and excited about what they’re learning, especially with math. I was happy to discover a free online summer math program geared for students from first grade through those learning algebra 2 and geometry. (I wish I had this program available to me when I was growing up!)
Did you know that research shows that students lose 2-3 months of grade level math equivalency over the summer? This of course then impacts their readiness for the next school year.
TenMarks is an educational program by Amazon that’s designed to be fun and entertaining and keep your child from losing the Math skills that they have learned. TenMarks won the 2015 CODiE Award for Best Math Instructional Solution. The program is personalized & tuned for each child’s individual learning needs, based on a summative end of year assessment.
The TenMarks Summer Math Program is a national program that provides students a personalized course tuned to their individual learning needs, based on a summative end-of-year assessment. With the Program, parents can encourage students to use screen time in a productive way over the summer, whether at home or on-the-go. Data from 2014 showed that the TenMarksSummer Math Program helped reverse summer learning loss for over 69% of participating students—in just 8 weeks, with one-hour of use per week, students tested at the beginning of the program and then again at the end of the program averaged 11% increase in scores.
Ella was excited to try this new program especially since math is her favorite subject. The site is very easy to navigate. And my favorite part about the program is that the apps are downloadable on all of your portable devices and available through both the Apple iTunes store and the Amazon app store. We go on a lot of short road trips throughout the summer and being able to encourage learning while on the go is amazing!
I like that you can actually avoid the summer educational slide with this program. It’s very simple to use too! You can create a profile for each child. They receive a screen name and password of their own. Each program is customized to each child’s individual learning requirements. In addition to “feeling smarter”, Ella says her favorite thing about the TenMarks Program is the rewards system. And I love it too because it’s also customizable and I feel I can reward her with even more educational experiences!
