The Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday. I have such fond memories as a child celebrating America’s Independence Day. During the day, our family would host an amazing barbecue. My parents gave me permission to stay up way past my bedtime spending time with friends and family catching and releasing fireflies, holding sparklers in anticipation of the fireworks. The fireworks show began shortly after dusk–allowing plenty of time to stop at our local ice cream truck and make it back home in time for the exciting PBS broadcast of “A Capitol Fourth”.
This year we’ll be traveling back to Ohio for the holiday, but we are planning on taking a little bit of DC back with us and celebrating “A Capitol Fourth” with a viewing party kit. This 38 year-tradition is the country’s longest-running live national July 4 TV celebration. The concert, being a special way to pay tribute to those serving our country and their families, makes this event especially important to our family. My dad is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served and survived the Vietnam War.
Have your own celebration at home with this viewing party toolkit from PBS! Use the kit to find your local PBS station online and to try out some cool recipes, games, trivia and tips on how to throw your own successful, fun and patriotic party. Also, use the tool kit to follow along with the night’s performers and to jam out to our handpicked pre-show playlist with America’s biggest birthday party!
